John Doyle Klier Residency

I am so honored and still in shock about this! I was awarded the John Doyle Klier Residency for the Writers Colony at Dairy Hollow, Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Faculty from universties are selected without an application process based on their commitment to community-based work and writing. Previous award winners include faculty from Notre Dame, University College London, and the University of Illinois. John Doyle Klier was a scholar and writer who passed away from cancer at the age of 62. The Residency is named in his honor.

Disassociation

I am intrigued by disassociation, narcissism, and toxic modes. How the means for survival can become twisted into pushing abuse onto others.

Jen Silverman's Bath is amazing, positioning the place and plot of relationships with taking a bath. I am in awe.

How can I do this with films. going into a theatre?

Definitely, my divorce and the Kill Bill films.

I also want to highlight theatres.

Movie Theater One

How many of these can I write, haha!

Kansas City is the movie capital, most theaters per capita.

 Eighties Music

Sometimes the trauma of hearing an old song triggers me, while Eighties music is the "safest" to pipe in to coffeehouses, bars, restaurants.

As so much money is in the biz, copyright is a necessity, and with its price. However, the most cliche can be used!

So taking lyrics and truly disguising them is par.

Projects

I was writing a poem a day until I saw I have enough to send out my chapbook around my two moms. My next project is about film and trauma--truly, how movies help in trauma, although it was disturbing to hear about Shelley Duvall in The Shining, how Kubrick purposely kept her on wits' end.
