I'm
also doing my own "protection spell" poetry be going through selfies I
had taken with a mentor-friend who was dear to me until I found out he
was making uninvited passes at colleagues, students, and other members
of the poetry community. Through digital editing, I am taking the
selfies I took, removing him from each photo, and replacing that space
with a color and protective poem inside. I've been searching for a way
to speak out against him, as well as not impose upon each survivor's
agency, so through these selfies--my own agency-seeking--I am reclaiming
my time of joy while excising him while asking for the protection of us
all.
